Photo Cleaner App: One-Time Purchase, No Subscription
In short
A photo cleaner app with a one-time purchase charges you once on Google Play and never renews. Oust works that way: swipe left to delete, right to keep, down for later. Its free version, with ads, sorts hundreds of photos a day, and one lifetime purchase removes the daily limit and the ads for good.
In this guide
If you want a photo cleaner app with a one-time purchase, you pay once and the app is yours, with no renewal date to remember. Several swipe cleaners on Google Play sell their full version as a subscription, and some add a lifetime option beside it; if you are leaving Swipewipe in particular, the Swipewipe alternative guide goes further. This guide shows how Oust works, what “lifetime” means on Google Play, which other swipe cleaners list a lifetime option, and what to check before you pay.
Oust: a swipe photo cleaner you buy once
Oust shows your gallery one photo at a time, and one swipe decides. Swipe left to delete, right to keep, or down for Later when you can’t decide yet; Undo takes back your last choice. You can sort photos, videos or both, at random or by date.
Nothing is deleted while you sort. Photos you swipe left wait in Oust’s trash, which you open with View Trash and review before you confirm. On Android 11 and later they then go to your phone’s own trash; on older versions, Oust asks you to confirm before anything is deleted for good. Oust needs no account and has no server of its own, and your photos never leave your phone.
The pricing is simple: a free version, with ads, and one paid option. Even without paying, you can sort hundreds of photos a day and work through a big gallery a little every day. Premium is a one-time purchase, not a subscription: it removes the daily limit and the ads for good, and nothing renews. If you reinstall the app, Restore Purchase in Settings brings Premium back. The ads in the free version come from AdMob; your photos never go there.
No AI sorts for you: you decide on every photo yourself, which is the point. Oust is on Android today through Google Play, and the iPhone version is coming soon.

Subscriptions and lifetime plans on Google Play
Of the swipe cleaners whose Google Play description says how its full version is sold, read on 15 October 2026, Tidy, Swyra, Swipo and Upswipe all offer monthly, yearly or other recurring plans. Each of the four also lists a lifetime option, in the part of its description about its paid version.
What a lifetime purchase means on Google Play
A lifetime purchase on Google Play is what Android’s developer documentation calls a one-time product: a single charge, unlike a subscription, which involves recurring payments. A premium upgrade or an unlock that removes ads is what the documentation calls a non-consumable product, bought once and permanently associated with your account.
A subscription works differently. According to Google Play’s help, it renews until you cancel it in Subscriptions on Google Play, and uninstalling the app doesn’t cancel it. When you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. A free trial turns into a paid plan on its own: Google Play emails you before it ends, then charges you at the start of the first billing period unless you have cancelled.
So “lifetime” means the purchase stays on your account: nothing renews, and there is nothing to cancel.
Photo cleaner lifetime options on Google Play, compared
The table shows what each app’s Google Play listing said on 15 October 2026, on the US store: the “Contains ads” label, the in-app purchase price range Google Play prints, and what the description says about paying. One range can cover several items, plans included, and doesn’t say which item is which. Prices change and vary by country: check the current listing.
| App | “Contains ads” label | In-app purchases, per item | What the description says about paying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oust | Yes, free version | One-time purchase | Premium is a one-time purchase, not a subscription; free version with ads sorts hundreds of photos a day |
| Swyra | Yes | $3.99 to $39.99 | Pro monthly, yearly or one-time lifetime, “no weekly plan”; free version has a daily swipe limit, extra swipes from achievements or rewarded ads |
| Upswipe | No label | $14.99 to $19.99 | Pro lifetime (“pay once”) or yearly; free version: 10 swipes a day |
| Swipo | No label | $6.99 to $34.99 | Premium monthly or yearly, or one-time lifetime; free version: 100 deletions to start, then 25 a week |
| Tidy | Yes | $0.99 to $14.99 | Gold monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, yearly or lifetime, with a free trial; Gold removes ads |
| Swipewipe | Yes | $1.99 to $39.99 | Not described in the listing |
| Slidebox | No label | $0.99 to $49.99 | Not described in the listing |
Swipewipe and Slidebox, the two apps with the most downloads in this table, don’t explain their pricing in the listing, so the purchase screen inside the app is the place to check whether they sell plans, a one-time unlock or both.
One swipe per photo, and a Later pile for the hard ones. Oust sorts your gallery on the phone, with no account.
Try it freeHow to check a photo cleaner’s price before you pay
Four checks, on Google Play and in the app, tell you whether you are buying once or signing up for a renewal.
1. Read the labels under the app’s name. Google Play shows “Contains ads” when the app contains ads, and “In-app purchases”, next to the Install button, when the app sells something inside it. The price range next to it doesn’t say whether an item renews.
2. Search the description for the words that matter. Look for “lifetime”, “one-time”, “pay once”, “subscription”, “renews” and “trial”. The four apps in the table above that offer one say so in the part of their description about their paid version.
3. Read the purchase screen before you tap. It should show each option with its period: per week, per month, per year, or once. If a free trial is selected by default, it becomes a paid plan when the trial ends unless you cancel.
4. Check Subscriptions on Google Play after you pay. Every subscription you bought through Google Play is listed there, and you can cancel it there at any time. A one-time purchase has nothing to cancel.
Price is only half of the choice: an app that sorts your photos should also keep them on your phone. The guide to photo cleaners that don’t upload your photos shows how to check that, and the guide to swiping to delete photos on Android walks through the gestures and where deleted photos go.

Where do your photos go while you sort?
With Oust, nowhere: Oust has no server, and the sorting happens on your phone. The ads in the free version come from AdMob; your photos don't. How to check for yourself
